yep

Salesforce.com is having major uptime problems, (of course it could be that an unexpected increase in volume could be the culprit), nonetheless this is horrible PR for the hosted model.

But oracle is between a rock and a hard place also, because their entire model requires million dollar contracts and its the same old low-end-cannibalization of an entrenched player problem.

I am quite familiar with Oracle's hosted solutions and I don't think they are appropriate or will work for this model (basically, the oracle app suite was architected before webservices and they disallow webservice access to oracle-on-demand- meaning, you need to access your data using (believe it or not) FLAT FILES- but anyway, oracle on demand is 5K per month, they can't convert their million dollar clients over to this, not a chance.

I think GOOG is going to take this whole area unless **somebody** manages to create the kind of uptime/reliability GOOG is delivering. There is more uptime in Google beta services than almost any full time hosted production solution out there.

I will be watching for the customer reaction to the Google enterprise gmail I posted on earlier. Gmail has been down on occasion and I ignored it because it is a beta product.
