What are they saying about us? COMING ANARCHY BLOG By Younghusband on Language & Media WatchingAmerica is a news site which aims to let Americans listen in on what the non-English world media are saying about the USA. Local media tends to provide different content to its domestic audience compared to an international audience. WatchingAmerica is trying to break through those barriers: watchingamerica.com; WatchingAmerica makes available in English articles written about the U.S. by foreigners, often for foreign audiences, and often in other languages. Since WatchingAmerica offers its own translations, regular users of our site will enjoy articles not available in English anywhere else. We are a unique window into world opinion. Launched just last month, WatchingAmerica has already been covered in the Christian Science Monitor and on NPR radio. The organization is not for profit and has a staff of volunteers that edit machine translations of foreign news sources. That may sound questionable, but apparently many of the staff are native speakers of the source languages. The site also links directly to each of the source articles, providing some sense of transparency, yet the selection of the content remains rather opaque.
