I don't think any of this took place, but I have not followed the Administration's argument for failing to follow the statute.

Thanks, c2. One of the chief reasons, which you generally have to find by reading between the lines, as neither the Admin nor the MSM seems interested in using the word, is 'data mining'.

IOW, the NSA wants to electronically survey large swathes of calls, and kick up interesting patterns. They also don't want to hang up everytime a call goes to the US or routed through the US.

The FISA statute is antiquated. I don't understand why the Admin didn't try to get it modernized while they were pushing the Patriot Act.
