Maurice,

I really have no position on global warming. I think that mostly it is another "fear" that serves its political purpose, just like other emotional trigger words - "nuclear" and "terrorism".

I was closely involved with environmental regulation issues at US federal level and have seen what level of scientific rigor is applied by the planners. I think it is not rigorous enough. Scientists and technologists work in too narrow areas of expertise, and there are very few individuals who can put all the pieces together to make sense of them.

However, just because global warming prediction is dependent on many assumptions and observations, it cannot be ruled out as a tool for prediction. Going by my previous experience with environmental issues, there are probably only 10 people in United States who have spend enough time studying and understanding the issue scientifically. And even those ten can be wrong because they may be blindsided in extrapolating from known observations or by their bias. On the topic of scientific experts, here is one book you would find interesting louisville.edu

The opinion of the rest of the people is either emotional reaction, disjointed thinking, or politics.
