I liked "Open Range" so much I've seen it six times in the theater and probably 8 or 10 times on DVD. It's one of my all time favorites, which is a great surprise because I'm a charter member of the DLDWWS (Didn't Like "Dances With Wolves Society").

Many of Kevin Costner's movies do not move me, but I really love to watch that one, including the "Making of" special feature. It gives me a genuine appreciation of the film maker's art. Also, it has Robert Duvall, my favorite Actor. The minor characters were superbly acted as well. My favorite was the bad guy that Kevin Costner shot between the eyes. I thought that actor got a lot of mileage out of a very small part.

Costner came to Juneau one time. The lady who owned a B&B that I stayed at for a while told me about how she pulled up at a wide spot by the Auke Bay Harbor, looked over, and saw Costner in the next car looking out at the harbor. When he saw she recognized him he took off like a scalded cat. Apparently he did not want to be hounded for an autograph.
