Question to the techies:

Given the fact that the Ascend went head to head with Cisco the "total package networking powerhouse" (so they say), and assuming Cisco pulled out all the stops including the dreaded "golden dagger" to try and swing this deal, why did such a huge, prestigious, telco. like NTT choose Ascend ?

Since Cisco has already stated that it will cut prices by whatever amount is necessary on a deal by deal basis to take business away from Ascend, the only conclusion I am able to come to is that NTT did not base its decision on price. What else is there ? Quality ? Evidently, something about Ascend's products was clearly so superior to Cisco's as to make price not a top priority.
Since "golden dagger" implies that Cisco will practically give away equipment to take business away from Ascend, NTT must have not wanted to use their hardware at ANY price.
If my analysis is correct then at least some of Ascend's products are still head and shoulders above the competition and not yet a commodity.

Assuming my analysis is correct, would somebody please explain to me which products are superior to Cisco and which are not.? If my analysis is not correct, would somebody explain why Cisco's "golden dagger" bounced off this deal ?
