What is your problem, man?
No problems, it just interesting that you consider Jewishness and Gypsey(ness?) to be nationalities. Use of the term nationality, to most people, implies that they are from a nation. Nations are in general defined by the UN, There are Georgian, Ukranian, Chinese and Albanian nations. People of Ukrainian nationality are those that reside in or came from the Ukrainian nation. There is no Jewish, Gypsey, Arab, Kurdish or Parapalegic nation, thus the confusion.
You appear to be using a definition of "nationality" which made sense prior to the founding of the UN when the borders of nation-states were constantly in flux due to battle and all the other things that caused nations to rise, fall and vanish. When empires ruled over groups of people that did not feel a part of the empire (a la Ukraine or Latvia within the USSR), your understanding of nationality made some sense. However, in discussing people which have not had a specific homeland for centuries (such as the Jews or the Gypseys), using the prefix 'nation' in front of their description is misleading in present times as nationality is generally understood to describe the people of a UN recognized nation. |
