Jeez, I wish my memory or Google skills were better. Hayek, a giant in my estimation, wrote about the hierarchy of knowledge. He claimed that in any given century a tiny handful of serious thinkers distilled ideas, sometimes right, sometimes wrong,
that would later become conventional wisdom -- as weak beer.
Their ideas would be distributed as received dogmas through another hierarchy; the wholesalers, then retailers of ideas, eventually to the masses.

For most of my life, I suspect that bad ideas - weak beer -- have predominated. Maybe that's changing. I dunno, but hope things are improving.
