JDN, I spent about 6 months in Santa Fe in 88, and as you say, it is quite artsy, and because of tourism, has become very expensive. Taos is even worse with the artists practically owning the place. I could never live in Albuquerque. Far too urban for me, and a lot of crime there too.

Gallup is a good place to visit, but you almost have to be an Indian to fit in there, and being in the NW corner, the weather is not as nice.
