You could be right. The salinity of the deep water in the northern parts of the Gulf Stream has been found to be reduced and is continuing to reduce. A good indicator that the Gulf Stream may very well come to a stop at some point in the future. The melting of increased amounts of fresh water ice due to global warming might result in cooling of Northern Europe and, as you say, a new ice age.

I know that the reasons for global warming are in dispute. I don't want to get into that. Suffice it to say that the fact of global warming in the Northern Hemisphere, for whatever reason, is not in dispute.

Once the increased flow of fresh water stops thanks to increased cooling, I guess then the whole Gulf Stream cycle could start again. I think there is evidence that this stopping and re-starting has happened in the past.
