It's not like Cheney pulled a Chappaquiddick, folks

Dickcheney_2It's been a long couple of days with my journalism colleagues. I've enjoyed some of the jokes -- one set "Cheney's got a gun" to the tune of Aerosmith's "Janie's Got A Gun," to which I added the lyric "Al Gore better run!" But last night it really struck me:

The only one who has cause to be mad at Dick Cheney is Harry Whittington -- he's the one who got a face full of buckshot!

But lefties are seizing upon a hunting accident to find something, anything to nail the reviled Cheney. Chatter I heard last night was speculating Cheney was drunk and that's why the press wasn't notified right away. (Never mind they wanted to make sure the lawyer was OK before notifying the press.) These are the same people who would have a cow if you uttered "Chappaquiddick!" or pointed out that Ted Kennedy was the driver in a still unexplained death.

However, here's the facts with Cheney: He was hunting. He has a license, but lacked a stamp for shooting upland bird game. He just paid $7 to cover that requirement. He accidentally sprayed a friend with birdshot. Medical attention came first. The Secret Service notified the sheriff's department, which investigated the incident.

I know the left is hoping and praying to yank something damning out of this, but let's face it -- this accident is no Chappaquiddick.
