I have no idea but it is a consideration. And you can be sure objecting against sending troops is not the only political statement he would have made -- or alleged to have made.

America is unusual in that the distinction between church and state is being increasingly blurred all the time. Indeed, the very presence of AIPAC, the representative of a foreign nation which is, in fact, regarded as if it was part of America, is a case in point.
