07:27 SUNW Sun Microsystems moves to allow Linux to run on servers in bid to expand reach - WSJ (4.33 ) -Update-

The WSJ is reporting that Sun Microsystems is moving to encourage use of the popular Linux operating system on its newest computer line, the latest in a series of moves to take Sun's machines to a broader audience. The Santa Clara, Calif., computer maker today is announcing that it will provide technical information that can help programmers adapt Linux or other operating systems for a new line of servers that use Sun's Sparc chips. Sun's move signals a greater willingness to accept Linux as an alternative to its own Solaris operating system to increase server sales.
