Ditto. But they run hotter because they write (and read) data 24x7. Directivo's write (and read) about 1GB of data EVERY hour. Some of the standalone Tivo's can do more than this depending on the recording quality. Also, I try set mine on "Standby" when I'm not watching it. This prevents it from disk "reading". If you replace the drive yourself, always buy the best quality you can with the biggest cache as possible. And I believe all Tivo's have fans in them, and because of this, you should open and vacumn (very carefully) your Tivo at least once a year.
