In the panoply of future threats, I would include Islamic terrorism, Chinese expansion, and Iranian nuclear ambitions as the three we need to seriously worry about.

In other words, our national security policy needs to focus on all three.

Thanks to the variegated nature of these future threats, preparing for them is a terribly expensive proposition. I am glad we have made the investment in military assets and R&D that we have. Our "hard" power is sufficient to deal with most of these except the terror threat which is so fluid and evanescent that dealing with it is simply difficult in the extreme.

We need, however, to use our "soft" power much, much better especially in our approach to Muslims. A lot of new thinking needs to be done to assist moderate Muslims take back a religion which is in danger of being hijacked by fanatics--or already hijacked, at least in Iran and perhaps a few other places.
