Yes, we put up a rooftop antenna. It poked up over the canopy of trees and ran down to the TV. We suffered rabbet ears, and the indignity of holding them so that the family could watch.

When cable arrived, it was neighborhood by neighborhood. rabbit ears were no longer required. They charged by the TV hooked up.
