I always heard inflation is more dollars chasing the same amount of goods and deflation is less dollars chasing the same amount of goods.

I'd agree with that. But if I understand mish correctly an increase in money/credit that exactly matched an increase in the amount of goods would still be classified as inflation. I don't agree with that, but don't have a better definition, either.
