Bushies are very guilty of criminal behavior and so their supporters bring up Chappaquiddick as the last really terrible democratic scandal to try and point fingers. No matter it was 35 years ago. And no matter the rightwing murdered both of Teddy's brothers and got away with it.

But even that scandal was basically just a personal accident, and it already damaged Kennedy badly. If not the Chappy, he would probably have become president instead of Carter.

Bushies also say Teddy should have been charged with a crime. Maybe if he had been in south Texas. But if Cheney is fouhnd to be guilty of negligent homocide, the south Texas court will let him off anyway. Kennedy in Mass or Cheney in Texas can get away with accidentally killing someone. In fact any rich person can almost anywhere. The rich rarely get convicted of things like manslaughter or homocide. ALm ost never.
