TO ALL - this thread was founded with the idea that it could be a haven from the same childish partisanship that infects political debate all over SI and much of America. A certain core of posters gravitated here with the idea that we could get beyond that.

The thread ended up with more partisanship than I desired. But most folks tried to get along, so I put aside my standards and said let's give it a try.

Now we are back to the same moronic repetition of partisan positions, insults, distortions and cheerleading.

Personally I am fed up with it. I plan to sleep on it tonight, but unless convinced otherwise in the next 12 hours or so, the thread membership will be trimmed in equal measure on the right and the left so we can finally talk about something interesting instead of rehashing the same old trite one-sided BS every time we turn around.

Bashers and partisans, here is your last chance to get in your licks or make a case why I shouldn't just adhere to what it says in the thread header, which clearly no one reads any longer.
