I have serious doubts that ZE's Ultimate Cutting-Edge Pledge will work out. If the HDTV circuitry has a basic cost of $1,000 - $2,000, it may may wiser to put it in the existing projection TVs in the first place, instead of enticing the consumer to buy a projection TV before the end of this year and then buy it back from him/her at a cost of more than $2,000, just the shipping and handling will cost a whole bunch. Just think, if Zenith offers sets that can be HDTV or SDTV ready today, wouldn't that be a great selling feature? Many people say that they are willing to pay $3,000 to $10,000 for a HDTV, why doesn't ZE make the commitment and make its projection TVs HDTV-compatible now? Get a jump on this market and be the first. Just look at the ZE's PR0900, which has the largest projected image, 60" - 240". It already has the HDTV capability plus several other formats:

PR0900 Supported Formats:
NTSC (3.58)
NTSC (4.43)
PAL M,N,B,G
VGA (IBM standard)
SVGA (VESA standard, 1024 X 768)
Mac II (640 X 480, 38kHz)
Grand Alliance HDTV Formats:
1280 X 720, progressive, 16 X 9 aspect
ratio
1920 X 1080, interlaced, 16 X 9 aspect
ratio

If HDTV is going to revolutionize the TV industry, then why is everyone waddling? The broadcasters wants to have viewers, but the viewers have to have the HDTV sets. The TV manufacturers don't want to make any sets yet because of uncertainty about programming from the broadcasters. Well, someone has to make a commitment and be the leader. Zenith has an excellent opportunity to be one.
