I agree somewhat with gold. There is a broader range within what we call republican. They are able to heterogeneously pool ideas and the result is innovation. This more than anything has strengthened their party while Democrats continue to diminish.

The Democrats tend to drive off anyone who doesn't march in lock step to the extremist litmus tests. They have become negative and dissembling in temperament. The only advances they seem to make are when they can find fault or embarrass some republican. This thread is a prime example. These are short term gains at long term expense, as the once great party continues to disintegrate before our eyes.

I am quite interested in liberal innovation and am always saddened to see that it is not the 'lefty liberals' who are enthusiastic about discussing substantive change and renewal.

We as AMERICANS should be striving for the middle...but we, as a people, have been passive and ineffective at directing our own fate. WE are to blame.

I would be very interested in discussing moderate positions. What precisely were you thinking of?
