Here is the source that I used in my post about the distance involved.

thesmokinggun.com

"That was interesting.

Both parts violated the same P&W code 43,652. Tried to google the code but couldn't find it.

If the shot pattern on the sketch of the victim is accurate then there are 2 comments:
1) the pattern seems to be less than 30" in diameter.
2) the victim got hit by about 1/3 of the pattern. Most of the pattern hit him in the chest.

1) indicates that the the victim was less than 30 yards away.

2) indicates that the shooter was drawing from his right to left. The victim was hit on his right side according to the text. One of the sketches doesn't seem to agree with the text. He was lucky not to get a pellet in the eye.

Some where it was reported that about 100 pellets hit the victim.
Others have stated that #7½/½oz. load was used. #7½ 1/2 oz. load contains 175 pellets. At 20 yards all the pellets are in a 30" pattern when using a improved cylinder choke.

The reporting officer did not fill out the blank for type of ammunition."
