Heathcare and social security are being bungled on both sides of the isle, in my opinion. I am not aware of a credible plan to solve either of these issues, and I think whoever puts together a workable solution to either issue would keep their party in the good graces of the American People. Like you, I am tired of the insignificant issues of gay marriage (again, my opinion), the abortion issue, who inhaled, who was in the reserves in 1965 etc; these issues mean little when considering the paramount issue is keeping our country's economy viable; unfortunately, these are the issues that sway voters. Politicians show their contempt of the average American's intelligence and attention span by arguing these points as paramount issues. these issues are fought by both sides, rather than the more significant issues you made reference to in your first statement. The macro issues: Deficits, loss of manufacturing base and outsourcing of labor, health care reform, social security reform, campaign finance reform, appropriate and controlled deployment of the military, etc should be the issues which drive political discourse...
