5:13PM Applied Materials forecasts growing sales, orders (AMAT) by Matt Andrejczak
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Applied Materials Inc., the world's largest chip-equipment supplier, said its fiscal second-quarter orders and sales will be higher than the quarter ended in January. In a conference call, management said sales would be at least $2.1 billion, a gain of 13% to 15%, while new orders would be between $2.3 billion to $2.4 billion, a rise of 15% to 20%. Applied Materials (AMAT) estimated its earnings per share in range of 22 cents to 23 cents, which includes 2 cents for expensing stock options.

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Electronic Arts Inc. (ERTS) said late Wednesday it has completed the acquisition of Jamdat Mobile Inc. (JMDT), effectively turning EA into the world's largest wireless video game publisher. On Monday, Jamdat shareholders approved the company sale for $27 a share, a deal valued at $680 million. Jamdat Mobile founder Mitch Lasky has been named senior vice president of EA Mobile and will oversee the division's global operations, which includes more than 400 employees in seven locations around the world.
