You should vote your mind, and it seems you are. I'd much rather vote for Republicans, for the same reasons you've stated. Obviously, I see the problem differently than you do. However, voting Libertarian is not a wasted vote. That "wasted vote" notion is just a convincing fairy tale concocted to convince folks to vote for the establishment as it is. Many libertarians who side either with Dems or Reps in general, will vote libertarian unless they find the election is very close. Then they vote for their 2nd preferred party candidate (a lesser of two evils, perhaps), in hopes of casting an important vote. In reality, the notion that your vote will swing things is highly remote, and the message sent by voting libertarian instead could be more valuable. In fact, unless more libertarian leaning folks get off this stupid "wasted vote" notion, we'll never have anything but the establishment giving us bigger and bigger government, more authoritarianism (and yes, Democrats are famous for expansion of authorities of government, while Republicans deserve more blame than they've traditionally gotten), and less and less individual freedom.
In short, libertarian leaning folks should vote their hearts come hell or high water, and finally in this way, make a difference.
