i don't see at all how a dollar drop necessarily happens due to a housing collapse. USD did not collapse when the tech bubble crashed. much the opposite--it went on to a new high in 2001. that year US-based international equity funds that were not currency-hedged got their heads handed to them. i should know--i was in Longleaf International in the first half of 2001, and they did very well compared to their peers precisely due to their hedging policy.

if you want to argue for a US housing bubble collapse triggering a dollar collapse, you will have to explain why it didn't happen when the US stock bubble crashed.
