...exterminating all opposition within his reach into prisons or mass graves

There are other leaders in other countries which do the same e.g. Pakistan, African countries in the Congo, Liberia etc. My question is why not target them also. I also thought that there is the UN Commissiion on Human Rights who are chartered to deal with such issues. Not sure if the US explored that avenue.

US first. Osama conducted an attack on US soil. That is our first priority. If I were advising the President, I would advise him to continue to have Osama and Zawahiri in the crosshairs and not diverge to Saddam who had nothing to do with the attacks within our shores.

Lastly, Sunni Saddam was a very good counterbalance to Shia Iran. That is the reason for increased geopolitical instability in that region today.

The Presidencies of Dwight Eisenhower through to Nixon understood very well the international arena of politics and deftly used the other nations to achieve the broad goals which benefitted the US. We need to get back to that modus operandi.

IMHO
