Lastly, Sunni Saddam was a very good counterbalance to Shia Iran. That is the reason for increased geopolitical instability in that region today. The Presidencies of Dwight Eisenhower through to Nixon understood very well the international arena of politics and deftly used the other nations to achieve the broad goals which benefitted the US. We need to get back to that modus operandi. IMHO
