Software: Update from the
RSA Security Conference

If the security industry is reaching maturity, no one told the some 14,000 attendees at
the RSA conference this week. The mood from the show was ebullient, with the
focus on helping online users and businesses transact safely in an increasingly
malicious digital world. Companies such as RSAS (IL/A) and VRSN (IL/A) are well
positioned to take advantage of online authentication concerns, while
"newer-to-the-party" vendors (in this area) such as SYMC (OP/A) are also
highlighting new anti-fraud "crimeware-protection" functionality for online
consumers. As our survey highlighted on Monday, areas such as security event
management and compliance-oriented solutions are gaining momentum. Surprisingly
mobile solutions were not as much in evidence as we would have expected. Network
security seems to be the most mature segment, with CHKP (IL/A) continuing to
struggle with new product momentum.
