Editorial in today's paper which I am paraphrasing. It said Cheney had it his way in reporting the incident which invoked such an uproar. AND his way was the way the Bush Administration had chosen to dispense information using Limbaugh,Hannity and Fox News channels which are very friendly.. albeit in the pocket of the administration. However, this is not the only reason . It is also an attempt to make the news coming from other sources questionable.
There is no doubt that the mainstream media is incredibly biased. There is every reason to not consider them neutral. Have you forgotten about Dan Rather already? The comment about McClellan being a "jerk"? Helen Thomas' rudeness?
Unless you consider that there is some requirement that the Administration be politically masochistic, the mainstream media is likely to be treated like this in the future. It has brought this kind of treatment on itself. Let them make a story out of it, most people can see what is happening. The polls and the news organizations' bottom lines reflect popular disapproval of their tactics and whining.
The article posted by kholt was very good. The press has been brilliantly outmaneuvered, again, by Cheney. During the three days that the press whined and carped about itself, the shooting, the jokes, etc., and engaging its attentionon a matter most people correctly think is utterly insignificant, it was failing to report on meatier issues, such as the FISA and others.
But I suppose that just means that the press will start seeing more evil conspiracies, maybe Cheney shot the poor guy on purpose to deflect media attention from these weightier matters. I have no doubt some loon will eventually make this point.....hm, yeah, that's the ticket. |
