I have a client who hired both an electrician and a plumber to fix up a rental. The electrician came in first and when he rewired the house he re-attached the ground to the galvanized cold water supply. This is against the local code but a lot of older houses are grounded exactly this way because otherwise the guy has to drive a metal pole down into the ground beneath.

Then along comes the plumber to switch out the aging pipes with PVC. The plumber very carefully replaces the electrical ground wires to the new plastic pipes. The tenant moves in and within a day loses every single electronic device in the house.

It was a classic case of dumb and dumber.
