McCarthy was one of the most evil men ever to abuse power in the history of the USA. Anyone who defends him is against democracy, free speech, civil liberties and truthful debate. That makes you a fascist, or close.
The wickedness of McCarthy wasn't about any particular victim he singled out, some of whom may have read Mao or Lenin's books or protested for free speech or against nuclear weapons. The real evil of McCarthy was that he wildly exaggerated the views of, and the dangers of, millions of innocent, hard-working, patriotic, honest Americans and tried to terrify them, demonize them and damage them.
Why did McCarthy do this? Because he was a very dishonest far rightwingers trying to turn the democratic USA into some kind of a quasi dictatorship. Like many extremist Bushies, McCarthy pointed the finger at others and called them evil, but he was the real evil-doer. He was the one who was really threatening our democracy. |
