I let a checkdisk routine get started, around 5:30 and it's still churning away. Why don't you cut it off? You have my sympathy. One of the reasons I got a new computer (with a fastere disk) was because my old one couldn't run a checkdisk anymore without going off into the ether. I stopped everything running in background that I could find and it still took days and even then I never had the patience to see if it would finish. <g>
