My apologies for getting back late, some urgent matters came up that required attention.

When I asked to clarify what you meant by “its own interest” your response was “Oil”, which was a pretty thin response.

My 1st inclination was to respond that this was one of the reasons that this team was elected. But I had to look into how this administration benefits by your one word response: “Oil”.

In 2005 required tax disclosures, George Bush has NO assets or investments that are related to the oil industry. Dick Cheney received residual salary from Haliburton that concluded in 2005 (the salary was a preset amount). So as far as self interest in oil, there seems to be no direct links.

I then had to think what is it that they’ve done with regard to “Oil”, that could be considered looking after their own interest. Other than promote ANWR, there is little. Of course the left has accused the President of fighting a war in Iraq over oil, but they never define what that means. Did they mean that we went in to take over the oil fields and get billions of $ of oil reserve for free? If so we really messed that one up since the Iraqis have maintained control of the fields and generated revenue since Saddam was toppled. In his 2006 SOU address, President Bush has said that we need to reduce dependency on foreign oil. But every President has pledged that back to Richard Nixon with no success as every year our dependency on foreign oil grows. I’m lukewarm to the notion that this Presidency is looking after it’s “own interest “ aka :oil. As long as oil is inexpensive we are going to depend on forein oil.

What is this admin competent at?

In 2000 they ran on a platform of:
-Prosperity
Real wages have increased as well as more people working as they said they would.
-Reduce Taxes
This administration reduced taxes as they said
-Education
No child left behind that was a bi-partisan effort with Ted Kennedy
- Family Matters
Brings values not present in previous administration
- Housing
Home ownership is at the highest levels ever
- Social Security reform
This is an open issue that needs work. The Democrats showed how they felt by applauding that no progress was made during the Presidents SOU address a few weeks ago. Something tells me that will come back to haunt them in roughly 8 months.

So overall based on the 2000 platform this administration has been extremely competent.

In 2004

- The # 1 issue was national security
Extremely successful. He has broken down barriers between intelligence agencies. Intelligence that enabled the prevention of attacks in the US. As well as the progress being made in Iraq in the form of them creating a constitution and having formal elections
- The # 2 issue for me and a lot of people was government reform on issues of activist judges.
I think this was a big mistake for the Democrats leading up to the 2004 election in their process of blocking judicial nominees. There were a lot of folks that did not want more activist judges appointed. Rulings coming out of the 9th circuit court as well as potential Supreme Court nominations was an unspoken agenda of conservatives. Bush was vulnerable President in 2004, I believe this is the 2nd issue putting him over the top.
- The President pledged NOT to sign the Kyoto accord.
This is just plain bad legislation aimed to hurt the US economy.

Based on his 2004 platform, I again assert that this administration is competent.
There have been no domestic terror attacks, in spite of the MSM claims, we are winning the war.
Bush has nominated and had appointed 2 Supreme Court Justices that fit exactly what he said he would nominate: Constitutionalist.
Kyoto was not signed.

While the left keeps whining, Bush keeps getting the agenda he was elected on enacted. That is competence.

Thanks for the opportunity to answer this, it was actually fun to go back to the platforms and look at what the President ran on and the successes he has had.
