YOu are talking about a victory/defeat scenario. It was all about telling the public what happened. Cheney said he consumed alcohol. The sheriff's report said he didn't. But the American public is capable of looking past such stupidity and move on without giving any credit or blame to anybody.

You remind me of Sen. Alan Simpson who came on TV and said that the reason Cheney was refusing to come out and speak to the country on that issue was because it was going to be made into a political issue. I call that paranoia. This is similar to Bush telling the nation that he takes photographs with so many people everyday but then refusing to release Abramoff photos with him. He said all the right things. We Americans know that a President takes so many photographs with so many people. But then when it is time to act, he behaves very differently than what he says.

If someone wants to "unite and not divide" then sincerity and being direct with the people moves this nation towards that goal of "unite and not divide."
