Hawk, it's interesting that today you can post about the possibility of abject failure in Iraq. I recall not too long ago when you dismissed such a scenario as beyond the range of probabilities based on our awesome power, the Iraqi people rising up and embracing democracy and all that.

It seems you're now past that place and turning to the question of whom to blame. So far your favorite candidates are the Iraqis who'll "ask us to leave," and, of course, "the Liberals who advocated 'cutting and running.'" The liberals? How about Murtha and a whole pile of conservatives?

Might I suggest another candidate for the blame? How about the Bush administration which was so supported by neocons like yourself. You know, the people who had naive, unsupportable notions concerning the psychology, politics and culture of the middle east. The people who had exaggerated views of what could be accomplished using the power of the greatest military in the world. The people who thought they could use words to overcome reality and convince the Iraqis and the world that we were helping them out of the goodness of our hearts. The people who bumbled like idiots and incompetently handled the occupation. The people who allowed their "friends" to run corrupt and wasteful reconstruction efforts that encouraged graft and theft in the billions. The people who spent hundreds of billions of valuable dollars which could have been put to good use both here and abroad. The people who diverted brainpower and manpower from the war on terror and expended it in Iraq. The people who made fools and liars of us in the eyes of almost the entire world. The people who encouraged "vigorous interrogations" of prisoners and created even more hatred for us in those whose "hearts and minds" we claimed we'd win. The people who turned radical Muslims into men and women ready to suicide killing us and turned moderate Muslims into radicals. The people who are less popular in most of the world than the terrorists we're fighting.

How about laying a little blame on their failed execution and failed policies?

Is it possible that you have the integrity to at least do that? Ed
