Without knowing more about the VP's load (anybody know if it was a factory load or a custom hand load for example), it's still hard to come a conclusion. We still don't have any idea, past raw speculation, about which part of the pattern hit the target. Too many variables for any of us out of the loop to flat out say they have the answers.

The weak spot of my test was the size of the target, only about 6"x10", so I didn't get a good feel for the spread. My shell was ordinary low brass field loads. I am going to look around and see if I have some 7 1/2's or 8's and shoot some more at something bigger to measure spreads.

The one thing I can't stress enough is my surprise at the near complete coverage of my target and the apparent hard impact at that range. Judging by the water in the ditch 5 to 7 yards past the target, the pass throughs and misses still had good velocity.
