I understand that these stories are non-substantive and a distraction but why would avoiding the "more substantive" stories be of particular benefit to the right?

I was thinking of the many budding acandals associated with this Administration, that have disappeared down the memory hole with scarce a trace.

Ever hear any follow-up as to the origin of the Niger forgeries? (Especially as compared to the amount of attention given to the Dan Rather forgeries.)

Ever hear any follow-up about the missing $8B?

Or the Downing Street memos?

Or the allegations that GWB wanted to bomb Al Jazeera?

To me, media bias resides in which stories they choose to cover.
