I am under no illustion that any hamas leader is a moderate but there are things that will force the organization to change occurring now or will force them from power. They won because they are seen as reformers but they also won that it is perceived that they took on israel and forced them from gaza. Both peoples are very tired and that exhaustion may outweight the hatred. If Hamas makes things better for pals, do they just trade that in at some point and go to I3 and for whose benefit. Tom Friedman thinks US and Hamas shouldnt try to bring down hamas and i agree. Should they talk to them now--no. Should they stop the money-no also because the money will come to them from other sources and those sources will demand a quid pro quo that hamas doesnt moderate. I would be playing poker now to get hudna, recognition of oslo, and recogntion of israel even if half assed. Lets deal with this democratically elected govt and give them a chance to change over time. MIke
