You're behind the curve in plumbing. No one uses copper anymore - it's all PEX plastic now, which is ridiculously easy to work with - check it out at at your local Home Depot, and you'll have sweated your last joint. The only downside is the special compression pliers for the different sized pipe bands are pretty expensive. It's kind of a shame really, I'd gotten very professional at sweating copper joints.

The problems with the old PEX have been solved, and they tell me it won't start leaking in 10 years..
