I try to think of SGI in terms of the requirements of a civil trial rather than a criminal proceeding i.e., that merely a preponderance of evidence, rather than evidence that is beyond reasonable doubt, is required to make a decision.

Currently I think there is a preponderance of evidence suggestive that SGI just might pull through this thing. I cannot imagine "McNewGuy" coming aboard without an agreement that Bishop would be shackled below decks. His experience suggests to me that he is far too experienced a manager to allow himself to be undermined by a discredited former CEO still employed as a board member.

While Bishop made idiotic moves, as seen in hindsight and sometimes even foresight, I don't think that Intel and HP are being run by idiots as well. I don't think Itanium (not Itanic) is dead. It is easy for anonymous message board posters, who in some cases have likely never even managed a personal checking account properly, to criticize industry titans. I am comfortable in assuming McKenna knows far more than I will ever dream about cleaning up the mess Bishop wrought. Whether he can engineer a Joe Montana-like rally with the players he has is a bet for the brave. I don't call myself brave but I am holding my shares with measured optimism.
