Rrufff,

First off, for reasons I still scratch my head over, I’ve made the conscious decision to use my real name, be it on SI, iHub, RB, or even the NCANS or Mark Cuban blogs. Years ago I talked to a guy on the phone (I still have his number) who told me stories of how the mob would put brokers in a barrel of acid if they didn’t do what they were told. I’ve talked to numerous people who have been exposed as mob and gone to prison. The daughter of an estranged mobster even called me to tell me about her father and where to find proof of his mob connection. I kept waiting for her father to call. Thank goodness he didn’t. There are a couple of psychos with web sites to this day who have written about me to every government agency there is as well as several police forces. You name a crime and I’m supposed to have been involved in it, even murder.

People who post on message boards are a different breed. They have to be. It’s vicious. But, guess what, of hundreds of libel lawsuits filed over the last eight years against message board posters, only one, Varian, has ever reached trial. Varian spent seven figures, got a verdict in their favor but the CA Supreme Court overturned it.

All the above was meant to make one point: if you are on message boards long enough, one day it’s going to happen to “you”. Deal with it or stop posting. Or take extraordinary steps to be anonymous. I’m by no means condoning such things, only pointing out the reality. SI does a great job at keeping things civil and making sure personal info stays personal. But it’s a big Internet and if you go after someone personally in a place they can’t reply, SI can’t protect you elsewhere.

Which brings me to theWorm06.

Note that Michael Zweber spent $585,986 in 2005 on legal expenses. Guess what he spent on salaries: $170,405! Most of that legal expense was going after theWorm06. He’s been followed, had drugs planted, his phone records stolen, and been accused of being just about anyone who says anything negative about Zweber. He gets sued and never served, then gets default judgments for not appearing in lawsuits he knows nothing about. So he joins these suits and gets them thrown out. If someone did this to you, would you have any sympathy for anyone who appeared to condone such behavior?

TheWorm06 is like a pitbull. Once he has a hold of you he’s not going to let go unless the scent changes. I don’t know if he’s always been that way or forced to be that way. Back in the days I was programming all day and sitting in front of a computer, I could keep up with multiple sites and multiple boards. I spend a large part of my days now on the road and then coach three basketball teams in the evening. Come spring it will be three baseball teams taking up nearly every day of the week. There are just so many hours in the day. So the particulars of your problems with theWorm06 and why things are what they are is sketchy. It might serve you better to write something directly to him. I will tell you that he’s got a lot of info on JMH and people “associated” with him (which I suppose is obvious anyhow), so if you want to stay out of the crossfire take that into consideration.

If there’s anyone to “blame”, it’s those people who gloat about getting theWorm06 tossed from SI where there are at least rules of the road. It’s those people who gloat about “embarrassing” him. If I see any factual problems with what he writes, like anything else, if I have the time, I’ll say something. As for his opinions, he’s entitled to them just like you and I are.

Other than the above, what can I say?

- Jeff
