Why do you want to talk about Kennedy? That was over 35 years ago. It has absolutely nothing to do with the cheney shooting.

I don't know for sure who it was who first notified the sheriff's department. I've heard two different stories. The first is that either the ambulance or the hospital notified them shortly after cheney shot the guy and the other was that the secret service notified them about an hour later.

If I had to make a guess I would say that the secret service knew that the sheriff already knew about the shooting and they called him to try and talk him out of doing any investigating that night. They were almost successful. A deputy came to the gate at the Armstrong ranch to investigate and was turned away by the secret service. So they were successful in that they kept the law from getting close to cheney until the next day but it came out that the deputy was refused permission to come on to the ranch property.
