There is something I think most people ignore when they hear numbers like this. They ignore the fact that someone owns this debt. Right now it is mostly Japan and China that are buying our debt. I heard recently that Japan last year made more from their interest on the debt they own than they made from their manufacturing economy.

I think the current administration would do just about anything to avoid an economic downturn.
