re: ""I think you have conflated marketing with dishonesty.""
Yes I do, especially political marketing. Because most of the time, it is directed at the lowest common denominator of human values, ego, avarice and now fear.. We will lower your taxes, boost your self esteem by saying how good you are, nobody is better, and will protect you from the bogey man that will "get you" if you go outside.. And it works as the masses cower before authority, whether it is a doctor, lawyer or chief, especially the CIC..
We are told to get a lawyer if an apple from the neighbor's tree falls on our dog's tail and wakes him up. Don't wave at your neighbor and bring Fido in for a cookie.. Sue em all.. Told to see a doctor if we pass gas and so on.. Consult authority, respect authority and never:
"Question authority" and THINK for YOURSELF.
Trust the government even if they cook up evidence to go to war.. And never, never, never, change your mind even if the evidence is proven wrong.. Because, BY GAWD, I was told that once, swallowed it hook, line and sinker, because I am the smartest and the BEST and I won't admit to anything less. I was told that by my fearful leaders once and I swallowed that hook, line and sinker.. Even though, I found out, I couldn't read the manual to use my DVD player.. That's the teacher's fault, I can't read even though I didn't care to learn and my parents never gave a sheet either.
All they cared about was shopping, football and SAVING a nickel on Federal taxes while all the other local and national fees went up for everyday things that cost the rich and poor the same, licenses, etc. All the while the fat cats got the big breaks on Fed taxes that far outstripped masses savings, relatively speaking.. They couldn't see the difference even though they were so smart..
They couldn't connect the dots as they lived unhappily ever after sending their blood and treasure to far off, endless wars.
That's just starters for the dangers of brain washing..
And so it goes.. :) and:(
