Milford police Officer Tim Lord demonstrates a Taser. Milford, the first police
department in Delaware to buy Tasers, reports "no problems whatsoever" in using
the devices.

Throughout Delaware, law enforcement officers who have used Tasers say the stun
guns have saved lives -- of police officers and suspects.
Officers say they have not witnessed the lethal effects cited in a recent study
claiming the electric jolt from a Taser is powerful enough to fatally disrupt
heart rhythms.
"That sounds far-fetched," said Milford police Sgt. Kenneth Brown, whose agency
was the first in the state to purchase the gun-like devices that deliver an
electrical zap instead of a bullet. "There are a lot of groups trying to stir up
a lot of controversy with the Taser. We've had no problems whatsoever."

Since Milford's police department began mandatory use of the Tasers nearly three
years ago, the agency's 30 officers have used the units about 50 times with no
fatal results, Brown said.

"We've seen fewer injuries to officers, such as hand, back or knees, typically
resulting from arresting combative subjects," agency spokesman Navarro said.
