it seems like (if one can hold on) an allocation of 50 % cash, 25 % short dow and 25 % long gold might work...but the overall mkt hasn't done much in many years, and maybe emotions are cyclical. big cap US stocks might be coming back in vogue, go tell people not to buy them !
