I understand the teary eye phenomenon, but it's more about the era, and the ideals that died, then it is about anything that actually got done. (IMO)

I don't want to stomp on anyone's memories- they certainly have a place in our lives- I just know, from experience, that there is no liar like memory (and I'm just talking about the history- JFK had more of an impact being assassinated, than he ever would have had if he'd lived, I think- so AFTER he was dead, he accomplished a lot, in terms of shaping the country's consciousness).
