Like you, I mourned the passing of JFK.

However, I have learned that it is best to keep the salt cellar full when it comes to politicians. His dalliances were dangerous, his plots to kill Castro crazy, the Bay of Pigs a disaster he should have either stopped at its inception or fully supported, etc.

I think you need a more nuanced view. For all his magnetism and the idealism he fostered, JFK had some very human and very dangerous flaws. I suspect they would have come home to roost had he lived.
