rrufff and all security fans, after switching to DSL and connecting one pc directly to the modem, Zone Alarm popped a window saying a new network had been detected. This also happens occasionally when rebooting [because the IP has changed?]. I made the mistake of telling ZA to put the 'new network' in the 'trusted' zone. Today I looked at the ZA log and found it had staved off dozens of intrusion attempts, some from Mexico. So ZA defended my pc anyway.

I've now put the 'new network' in the 'internet zone' [with tighter security]. I do not want to connect through my router yet, because SBC Yahoo DSL requires not disconnecting the modem for the first 10 days so it can determine the best connection speed for my line. Right now it's capped at 384 kbps. Also, I don't want the provider to blame the router if speed doesn't improve and I have to call support.

Once connected through the router, the IP from the router should stay constant, I think.

Just sharing some info.
