I imagine they could excel in winter sports. I'm not sure they would dominate the way they do in some sports, but there is no reason why they couldn't be very competitive. A few of them are very competitive in Olympic winter sports (for example Shani Davis)

But possibility that others who didn't train at a high level in these sports might have been better if they did train at such a level, doesn't change the fact that the athletes in the current winter olympics pretty much are the best in their sports. Saying "So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world's greatest athletes" shows them a great lack of respect. Basing that on their not being black does show racial prejudice. If he made the response in 1938 about major league baseball (which was segregated) it wouldn't show the same kind or racial prejudice.
